About Jewel Jones

I am a relationship counsellor, an individual therapist, a group worker and a trained supervisor. I also train counsellors and community workers. I love working with couples and find it a real joy to work with adolescent young women. And they seem to like talking to me and after our talks together they often find they are more able to make changes in their lives.

I have been a Regional Co-ordinator of Penrith’s LifeCare Counselling and Family Services, a counsellor and group worker with Interrelate, and a specialist counsellor working with adults with childhood trauma with the Salvation Army Counselling Service.

Currently, as well as maintaining my private practice, I work on a contract basis for various organisations, including Relationships Australia. In these roles I may write programs, deliver groups for men who use violence, supervise other group workers or teach parenting and life skills. Some of my work centres on working with Carers, and assisting them to find new resources inside and outside to support them in their caring role. Working with individuals and families impacted by cancer is alos a significant part of my work. It is humbling to relate to people of such greatness and such courage! We learn from each other............

Having trained as a counsellor in 1996-1997, I have since completed more than 2,000 hours of personal and professional development. I am committed to on-going training, and have regular clinical supervision. I love facilitating supervision groups and am beginning to present at conferences about counselling issues.

I am a clinical member of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association of NSW (CAPA )and a member of the peak body, Psychotherapists and Counsellors federation of Australia (PACFA).

My work is my passion: I love people, and relating to people who are wanting to make sense of their lives, to get there needs met, to be more satisfied and more alive. It may sound trite, but I believe i am one of the lucky few who gets to do what I love as a job.

My background includes training in storytelling, theatre, writing and teaching. I love the blues, any kind of water but especially the beach and like to play with creative pursuits like collage, writing and gardening. I am a mum to two adult sons and that shapes me, delights me and transforms me. Underneath it all I am deeply committed to becoming a person who is open to change and growth: I believe it keeps me alive. For what are we if we do not seek out love: of all that can be, and is, good.
